Bro Brian Kerman, Dianella Circle, celebrates 40 Years membership
The Brothers and their Ladies who attended the AGM meeting of the Dianella Circle on Wednesday the 29th April 2026 welcomed the presentation of the Certificate and miniature to Brian Kerman to celebrate his 40 years of membership to the Dianella Circle.
Brian joined the Circle on the 28th of May 1986 and held the positions of Vice President in 1993/94 and President in 1994/95. Brian is now 94 years old and still attends meetings on a regular basis and drives himself.
Over the years, Brian and his late wife, Beryl, have been well known for their generosity throughout the Catenian Association. His Catenian boat trips on the Swan River and to Rottnest are legendary especially, when UK Brothers were visiting Perth, he ensured that numerous drinks and food were supplied to all on the boat. In his younger days, Brian and Beryl also visited the UK many times and became firm friends with Mike and Anne Marie O’Malley previously a Grand President and a few times they returned the favour and visited Perth and were hosted by Brian and Beryl.
In his talk after the presentation, Brian told of his joy of being a Brother of the Circle over the 40-year period. He has made many friends and when he and Beryl moved to Applecross, he remained a member of Dianella Circle because of the many friendships made and enjoyed. At the meeting, Brian wore his past President’s tie and with the colours being maroon and gold. Many are aware that Brian grew up in the suburb of Shenton Park (Keightley Street) and was a supporter of the Subiaco Football team in the WAFL with the same colours. For the record, Brian met Beryl through the Youth Catholic Workers (YCW) and they were married in the St Aloysius Catholic church located in Henry Street in 1954.
Apart from the many boat trips, Brian and Beryl welcomed all Dianella Brothers and their wives every January for a BBQ held at the spacious gardens at their Applecross home. Brian when recalling these large functions, especially mentioned the late Bishop Peter Quinn, several other late Brothers and several wives who have gone to God with fond memories. This annual event will always be remembered as the best social function held by the Circle to celebrate the new year. Unfortunately, when Brian and Beryl built their new house closer to the river the gardens were too small to accommodate a large crowd and therefor the annual BBQ was no more.
Brian was for many years a Vice President of the Youth Support Project and the Catenian Charity. He worked with Len Roberts the then Presidents and others to assist young Catholic Youth to achieve faith development and assist financially with tertiary studies. Although now retired from the Boards, he still is a strong supporter of both worthy funds.
Brian, the Brothers of Province 20 strongly thank you for all you have contributed.
