Distinguished Visitor, Rev Dr Robert Deinhammer SJ visits Harbourside North
Twenty Harbourside North Catenians, a visitor and 3 visiting gentlemen were honoured to welcome Rev Dr Robert Deinhammer SJ, an Austrian Jesuit priest who entered the Society of Jesus in 2008.
Holding doctoral degrees in philosophy and law, Fr. Robert previously worked as a jurist, conducted extensive research on poverty and ethics at the University of Salzburg, where he lectured in the philosophy of law and ethics.
After serving as Vice-Rector and Prefect of Studies at the Collegium Canisianum in Innsbruck, he studied theology in London and was ordained a priest in 2016. He seamlessly combines his pastoral ministry in Innsbruck with global teaching, academic research, and publishing, specializing particularly in moral philosophy, legal philosophy, and Christian ethics.
Based in Australia for a short time, Fr. Robert is currently residing at the Parish of Our Lady of the Way in North Sydney through June 22, assisting with parish Sacraments and working alongside the local Jesuit community. He is currently midway through guiding 34 of our parishioners in a month-long Retreat in Daily Life. This program utilises Ignatian spirituality to help laypeople deepen their faith without disrupting their daily work or family commitments. Because he is completely fluent in both English and German, he is also enjoying vibrant community connections, with ongoing opportunities for German-speaking parishioners to meet or host him through June 21.
Fr Robert kindly joined us, at Cammeray Golf Club, for the meeting and dinner and followed with a very informative and well received talk on “The Gospel and the Law”
As Martin Luther wrote, “Virtually the whole of the scriptures and the understanding of the whole of theology depends upon the true understanding of the law and the gospel.”
