Introducing our new National President
Brother Lou Daily was installed as Australian National Council President at the April meeting of the ANC. Bro Lou is in his third year as Director of Province 20.
He has been a member of the Association since April 2001. He serves as a member of Dianella Circle. The Officer positions he has held during this time include Circle President (5 years), Membership Officer for almost a decade, Press and Publicity Officer (7 years) and Provincial Councillor (3 years). Within the Provincial Council he became President in 2020/21 after a year as Vice President.
Whilst Lou was serving as Membership Officer, the Dianella Circle was awarded the International Membership Award for the most new Brothers recruited in 2017. They were the first Circle outside the United Kingdom to achieve such an honour.
Bro Lou was born in Subiaco, 1944 on All Saints Day. He went to schools in Subiaco, spending his primary years at the Brigidine Convent and then St Joseph’s College which was operated by the Marist Brothers.
Bro Lou married Janice in 1967. She passed into eternal life in January 2007 after they shared thirty-nine years together. He is a father of four and a grandfather of seven.
During his working life, Lou worked for the Health Services in the WA State Public Service. Some highlights of his experience include:
- State Manager for the facility development and maintenance of country hospitals and associated facilities throughout Western Australia;
- Various resource, financial and service management positions within the State Health system;
- Senior Consultant to the State Chief Psychiatrist and the State Manager of Mental Health Services in WA;
- Consultant and advocate within the private property industry.
During his later working life, Lou was appointed to the Board of Management for seven years. This was followed by three years as Chair of an NGO (non-government organisation) known as the June O’Connor Mental Health Service that provides both clinical and social Day Care and welfare to people with mental health illness and associated homelessness.
Lou’s service to the church continued on a voluntary basis after his retirement. He joined the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, becoming the Swan Regional President within two years and then a member of the State Council of SvdP for four years. He is still President of the Dianella/Morley Conference. When not engaged with Catenian affairs, Bro Lou likes to research various family and war history, as well as undertaking regular therapy such as gardening, improving his cooking skills and participating in social activities.
