Celebrating John Bottomley’s life lived to the full for 100 years.
Darling Range Circle brother, John Bottomley has had a few birthday celebrations since turning 100 on 4 October this year.
Last night’s Darling Range Circle dinner meeting was the latest occasion where his long life was celebrated with members of his Circle and 5 visitors including the ANC President, Bro Lou Daily, Bro Vern Scanlan, Bro Patrick Doyle and two brothers from City of Mandurah Circle, Bros Barry Vanderputt and Wayne Wright. We thank them all for coming along.
There will be an article on John’s life in the next edition of Western Link but in short, John was born in Littleborough, England.
John can remember being called up for and training to serve in the army in World War 2 before being told the bomb had dropped in Japan.
He emigrated from England in 1969 to Perth and worked for many years for the Health Department and in teaching.
After retiring he gained a Bachelor’s degree in Literature at age 64 before going on to complete two Masters degrees by the age of 82.
He is about to publish a book which started off as a PhD on Climate Change and the Media.
John continues to be a proclaimer in Mass and still plays the flute at Sunday mass.
Oh, and he also visits the Gym on most days of the week. Talk about ‘Living life to the Full’.
